Yorktown Independence Day 5K/8K FAQ's

Where are the races held?
The races begin and end at Surrender Field located at the entrance to the Yorktown Battlefield on Surrender Road in York County. Parking is at York High School. Race day registration and packet pickup will be held in the school cafeteria. Click on the link below to view a map and driving directions.

What time do the races start?
The 8k race starts at 8:00AM and the chute will remain open until 9:30AM. The 5K begins at 8:10AM.

Can I register on race day morning?
Yes, you may register on race day morning, but t-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 500 runners. Last year t-shirts sold out. This is an extemely popular race; it's best to pre-register.

Where is packet pickup?
July 2 from 10:30AM - 1:30PM at Tabb Library in Yorktown VA. Race day packet pickup and registration begins at 6:30 AM.

What is the Race Route?
The route for both races runs over the rolling paved roads of the Yorktown Battlefield. The 8K is a mostly paved course that loops the Battlefield, meanders onto a gravel bike path, crosses Surrender Road to a second portion of the Battlefield, crosses Surrender Road once again and ends at Surrender Field. The 5K route runs from Surrender Field, out a paved road, around a cone and back to the start. There are some hills. The route is free of traffic.

Are there mile markers? Yes, there will be markers at each mile for both races.

Are there awards?
Yes, there are awards for the top three male and female finishers in the 8k. Additionally, there are awards for the top three runners in each age group in the 8K. Age groups are: 11-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+.  Participants in the 5K event will all receive a commemorative finisher's ribbon. Awards will be announced as soon as possible following each race. Runners must be present to receive awards. If you are unable to stay to receive your award, please contact the race director. Sorry, due to shipping costs, we are unable to mail any uncollected awards without prepayment.

Scoring: Scoring is provided by the Peninsula Track Club. Results will be posted on this site as soon as they are made available.
